THEATERMANIA: CONGRESS MEMBERS SIGN LETTER URGING SUPPORT FOR THEATER ARTISTS AND ENTERTAINMENT WORKERS

Almost 40 members of Congress have signed a letter to Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Representative Kevin McCarthy, the House minority leader, urging them to include entertainment workers, including theater artists, in their upcoming relief packages for American citizens.

The letter notes that most working artists are freelancers, who are not often granted regular employee protections including unemployment and paid leave benefits. On Broadway, 16 productions were scheduled to open during the suspension period, and off-Broadway and regional productions are being completely cancelled.
