2004 – Gordon Davidson

The Western Stage Managers Committee presented this year's Lucy Jordan Recognition Award to Gordon Davidson, Artistic Director and Producer of Center Theatre Group, which includes the Ahmanson Theatre, the Mark Taper Forum and the new Kirk Douglas Theatre in Los Angeles.

The Award was presented at the Western Regional Membership Meeting on October 8.

Gordon Davidson has led the Mark Taper Forum throughout its 35-year history and the Ahmanson Theatre since 1989. During that period, he has guided over 250 major productions to the Taper stage while also overseeing the numerous special projects sponsored by the theatre. Among his directing credits are In The Matter of J. Robert OppenheimerHenry IV, Part OneHamletChildren of a Lesser GodNine Armenians and QED at the Taper, as well as the 30th Anniversary production of Candide at the Ahmanson. Special awards include: Tony Award (theatrical excellence); Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle (LADCC) Award (distinguished achievement), The Governor's Award for the Arts and the 1993 Casting Society of American Lifetime Achievement Award, among many others. Mr. Davidson was appointed to the National Council on the Arts by Bill Clinton, and is a member of the American Academy of Arts & Sciences.
