Tad Wilson, a chorus member in BONNIE & CLYDE, is the fourth Gypsy Robe recipient for the 2011-2012 Broadway season. The colorful garment was presented to Tad on opening night (Thursday, December 1, 2011) at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre in New York City's bustling theatre district.

Recreating a time-honored tradition that began more than 60 years ago, the ceremony began as cast members formed a large circle onstage. Equity's National Chorus Business Representative David Westphal welcomed everyone on stage and introduced AEA Eastern Regional Director Rick Berg and Robe Historian Gloria Rosenthal. Then, David invited company members who were making their Broadway debuts to come forward, where they proudly posed for photos.

Next, Gypsy Robe volunteer Terry Marone invited past recipients of the robe to be acknowledged, including: Adrian Bailey, Austin Colyer, Pi Douglass, Bill Nable, and Jennifer Smith. She then introduced Jenifer Foote (FOLLIES), who stepped forward to recite the robe's history and the ritual of passing it along to the Chorus member with the most Broadway musical chorus credits.

When Jenifer called out Tad's name, the company erupted into applause as Tad come forward and put on the garment. Tad's previous Broadway Chorus credits include PRISILLA, QUEEN OF THE DESERT and ROCK OF AGES.

After posing for photos, Tad circled the stage three times as everyone reached out and touched the robe to receive its blessing. Westphal wrapped up the ceremony with a joyful "Welcome to Broadway, BONNIE & CLYDE."

In an email following the ceremony, Tad said: "I was shocked to be the recipient of the Gypsy Robe for Bonnie & Clyde. The Gypsy robe ceremony has been one of my favorite things about opening a show on Broadway. I love the how the community unites in this amazing tradition. I am honored to be among the long list of winners and especially in this amazing show. When Jen announced my name I couldn't move because I was caught off guard. I had no idea that I would be called. It was thrilling to follow the tradition of blessing the show in this special way and I look forward to passing it on to "Clear Day" on December 11th.
