Message from the Casting Society of America

Following the situation in which a casting director twittered during auditions, the Casting Society of America released the following statement and asked that it be posted on AEA's website.

"The New York theatrical casting directors wish to assure the acting community that we believe the following:

"We expect our colleagues to view actors as professionals and to treat them commensurately: with courtesy, attention and respect.

"Our evaluations of actors' work in auditions mustn't be discussed with the general public, whether in print, on line or through social networks except in the context of promotional or press situations, or for bona fide educational or informative purposes. In those instances, casting directors are expected to maintain high standards of discretion and remain vigilant that nothing revealed serves to embarrass or discomfort any actor."
