AEA Marches in Annual Labor Day Parades Throughout the US

New York City

NYC parade

Despite a bleak weather forecast, over 50,000 union members and their families representing 400 unions marched in the 127th annual NYC Labor Day Parade and March on Saturday, September 12, 2009.

Equity members of all ages, came with their families and pets to show union pride and to march for health care reform. The parade began at 44th street and marched up 5th Avenue to 72nd street. Parade participants carried signs saying "Health Care For All" and "Health Reform = Public Option."

Before the parade, the annual Labor Day mass was celebrated by Archbishop Timothy Dolan at St. Patrick's Cathedral at 8:00 a.m.

Equity was joined by other entertainment unions on the parade route, including AFTRA, SAG, WGA-East, ATPAM, Local One IATSE, Local 764 Wardrobe, Local 828 Scenic Artists, Local #798 Make-Up and Hair, and Local 802 AFM.

BRAVO to our marchers and thanks for your continued support!

Milwaukee parade

In Milwaukee, Equity Members marched at Laborfest 2009, on Monday, September 7th (Labor Day). A sunny day greeted the Milwaukee County Labor Council AFL-CIO. From the beginning, which dates back in various forms to 1965, the family friendly festival has welcomed all of Milwaukee to join in the all-day celebration. The event kicked off with the parade through downtown Milwaukee at 11 a.m., followed by the free festival from noon to 5 p.m. on the .Summerfest grounds (Maier Festival Park).
