Chicago Members Explore Working in Classics

By Luther Goins, Central Region Business Representative

On June 27 and 28, 2009, the Central Region Equal Employment Opportunity Committee (EEOC) presented Working with the Classics: a Two-Day Workshop, the third in a series of annual EEOC events.

Working the Classics Panel

The workshop was designed to unravel the mysteries of preparing for and working with classic plays and playwrights. Chicago Shakespeare Theater's producer, Criss Henderson, and Artistic Director, Barbara Gaines, graciously donated their upstairs Studio Theatre for the workshop and over 75 actors attended.

The panel included: longtime classics teacher and coach Susan Hart; EEOC Co-Chair Cheryl Lynn Bruce; members Ernest Perry, Jr., Jacqueline Williams, Allen Gilmore, Ora Jones and Barbara Robertson; Chicago Shakespeare Theater's Casting Director Bob Mason, and Court Theatre Artistic Director Charlie Newell. EEOC Co-Chair E. Faye Butler acted as facilitator.

Rules of the Road: How NOT to Audition and Tools of the Road: How to Audition for the Musical were previously presented under the EEOC's Rules of the Road Series.
