Bay Area Critics' Awards Presented

The following Equity members and productions have received 2006 Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle (BATCC) Awards:

A Traveling Jewish Theatre (BAT 3) was one of two recipients of the Paine Knickerbocker Award, named for the former theatre critic of the San Francisco Chronicle and presented to a person or organization who has made a continuing contribution to Bay Area theatre.

Other Equity recipients:

SALOME, Aurora Theatre (BAT 3) was named Best Dramatic production. Also in the Drama category, Rita Moreno (GLASS MENAGERIE), Berkeley Repertory Theatre (LORT-B) was cited for Best Female Principal Performance, and James Carpenter (THE MASTER BUILDER), Aurora Theatre and L. Peter Callender (WORLD MUSIC), TheatreFirst (MBAT 1) took Best Male Principal Performance honors. In the Supporting Performance categories, Delia MacDougall (MERRY WIVES OF WINDSOR), California Shakespeare Theatre (LORT-C), Nancy Carlin (THE IMMIGRANT), San Jose Repertory Theatre (LORT-C) and Sue Trigg (NOISES OFF), an Equity Membership Candidate (EMC) at Willows Theatre (LOA/LORT) received awards, while Dan Hiatt (THE IMMIGRANT) was named in the Male division. David Maier (ZORRO IN HELLl), Berkeley Repertory Theatre (LORT-B) was honored for Choreography or Fight Direction. THE IMMIGRANT, San Jose Repertory Theatre and THE MARRIAGE OF FIGARO, Center REPertory (LOA/LORT) were named for Ensemble Performance.

In the Musical category, Jessica Raaum, Equity Membership Candidate in ANNIE GET YOUR GUN at Foothill Music Theatre (Guest Artist II) was best Female Principal performer and EMC Rick Williams (1776), Willows Theatre was best Male Principal performer. Mary-Pat Green (PUTTING IT TOGETHER), SF Playhouse, Maureen McVerry (PARDON MY ENGLISH), 42nd Street Moon (BAT 1) and EMC Tiffany Marie Austin (MISS SAIGON), Broadway by the Bay (Guest Artist II) shared Female Supporting honors and EMC David Sattler (Miss Saigon) Broadway by the Bay gave Best Male Supporting performance.

25th ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE, Post Street Theatre; HAPPY END, American Conservatory Theatre; MISS SAIGON, Broadway by the Bay; PASSING STRANGE, Berkeley Repertory Theatre; PUTTING IT TOGETHER, SF Playhouse and SEVEN BRIDES FOR SEVEN BROTHERS, Broadway by the Bay received Ensemble Performance awards.
