Supper Club is Unfair

In January 2006, Equity filed an Unfair Labor Practice Charge against the owner of The Supper Club for having caused The Rat Back is Back to close. The owner had demanded that the producer "get Equity out" and that he fired the Equity Stage Manager because the SM was trying to uphold the Equity rules. The Rat Back is Back, written, directed and produced by Equity member David Cassidy, was due to open in early December 2005.

The Labor Board has found merit in Equity's charge and has filed a formal complaint against The Supper Club. At press time, a hearing was to be held in early June.

"This was a difficult case and it's a terrific ruling on Equity's behalf," said Eastern Regional Director Carol Waaser. "It sends out a message that non-union shows won't be tolerated in the Broadway box."
