Equity Meetings in Texas

Dallas/Ft Worth, Houston Galveston and Austin/San Antonio Members Select Committees, Discuss "Crisis on the Road"

The Annual Area Membership Meetings of Equity's three Texas liaison cities were held during the first week of February, 2004: Dallas/Ft. Worth February 1, with 18 members attending; Houston/Galveston on February 3 with 37 members, and Austin/San Antonio on February 7, with 31 members in attendance.

The first order of business at each meeting was to select the Area Liaison Committees. Members of the Committee in Dallas/Ft. Worth are Sherry Boyd, Deborah Brown, Gail Cronauer, Lisa Fairchild, Pam Dougherty, Kevin Scott Keating, Gary Moody, Larry Randolph, Dwight Sandell and Sally Soldo (Chair) with alternates Connie Coit, Jerry Haynes and Sara Weeks.

In Houston/Galveston, the members of the Committee are Luisa Amaral-Smith (First Vice-Chair), James Belcher, David Grant, William Hardy (Chair), Ron Jones, Francie Mendenhall, Jimmy F. Phillips, Debs Ramser, Joel Sandel, Mary Shearin McCormick, Susan Shofner and Rebecca Skupin. It was noted that this year Bill Hardy is celebrating his 50th year as a member of Equity.

Sharon Bernard, Kay Andrea Coleman, Mary Cox, Karen Kuykendahl, Ev Lunning, Jr. (Chair), Bill McMillin, Tere Myers, Jerili Romeo and Annie Suite are member of the Austin/San Antonio Committee.

Western Regional Director John Holly reported at each of the meetings on the Pension and Health Funds and on Equity work statistics, both locally and nationally. He then made a Powerpoint presentation, prepared by Equity's Internal Organizer John V. Fahey, on the Crisis on the Road. In 1993, 10% of touring shows were non-Equity. By 2003, that number had swelled to 40%, robbing thousands of work weeks from Equity Actors. The need to take back the road was emphasized at all three meetings followed by a discussion of what members can do locally to help achieve a resolution of the crisis.

Each of the meetings ended with members engaging in lively discussion of local issues.
