ATTENTION ARTISTS OF COLOR: NEW YORK THEATRE WORKSHOP—CASTING FELLOWSHIP

New York Theatre Workshop (NYTW) is seeking qualified candidates for a two-year (2005-2007) Casting Fellowship to be potentially funded by TCG’s New Generations Future Leaders Program.

Open to those in Casting, as well as Directors, Playwrights, Dramaturgs and Arts Administrators of color seriously interested in Casting. NYTW would like to offer this opportunity for an artist of color to work one-on-one with Jack Doulin, Casting Director, garnering essential hands-on training, assuming an integral role in the day-to-day activities of the theatre’s administrative and artistic work, in addition to learning about and experiencing the casting process over the two-year fellowship.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, creating and implementing a “NYTW Casting Department Bible” for administrative purposes, monitoring Equity Principal Auditions, setting up general auditions and callbacks, taking part in casting meetings with the creative teams of each of our shows, managing the day-to-day activities in the casting office, and developing relationships with agencies and actors.

There is an annual salary of $25,000 plus health insurance benefits for this full-time position.

Outside of the casting department, the Fellow has many opportunities to become immersed in the ongoing life of NYTW—we encourage the Fellow’s attendance at weekly artistic meetings and at our annual artistic summer residencies at Dartmouth and Vassar. By learning how to interact with top-level theatre management, we hope that he or she will take away valuable insight into the characteristics of a good leader and the future of the American Arts.

ALL APPLICATIONS DUE: NOVEMBER 22, 2004
ALL INTERVIEWS WILL BE CONDUCTED THE WEEK OF DECEMBER 6, 2004

Special Note: Because of specific nature of the TCG New Generations Future Leaders Program, the selected candidate will not be hired once they are chosen. The Workshop and the candidate will be notified the week of March 21, 2005 as to whether the grant has been awarded and the position will start no earlier than August 2005.

Candidates are asked to submit:

  • A resume
  • 2 References
