Area Description
Known as the Gateway to the West because of its important role in the westward expansion of the U.S., St. Louis is also an important part of America’s theatrical history. St. Louis is home to a variety of theatres ranging from SPT's like UpStream and HotCity Theatre to our LORT venue, The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis. We have the largest outdoor summer musical theatre, the MUNY, and one of the oldest and largest African American theatre companies, The St. Louis Black Rep. Each year, the Kevin Kline Awards, named for the Broadway Actor and St. Louis native son, celebrate the achievements of the city’s theatrical achievements.
