Eastern Region/New York City

Eastern Regional Director/ Assistant Executive Director

Actors' Equity Association (AEA), the labor union representing the more than 48,000 Actors and Stage Managers of the professional theatre throughout the United States is seeking a highly experienced labor professional to serve as Eastern Regional Director/ Assistant Executive Director (ERD/ AED). Working primarily in the Eastern Regional Office in New York City, and reporting directly to the Executive Director, the ERD is responsible for the operations and management of the Eastern Regional Office and overseeing supervision of all Eastern Regional staff. The ERD is also responsible for maintaining positive relationships with AEA elected leadership, membership at large, and AEA bargaining partners. As part of an Executive Team, comprising the other AEDs under the leadership of the Executive Director, the ERD works to develop and implement AEA's administrative vision which integrates key national and regional goals. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Serve as lead negotiator and/or supervise negotiation of all Eastern Region collectively bargained agreements and participate in national negotiations as assigned.
  • Oversee the administration of all collectively bargained agreements for the Eastern Region. Ensure the efficient administration of the Eastern Regional office, its staff, and its financial affairs, reporting to the Executive Director, and working in consultation with the Assistant Executive Director for Finance and Administration with respect to overall national administrative and financial matters. In consultation with the Executive Director and the Assistant Executive Director for Finance and Administration, participate in the budgeting process and provide oversight for activities relevant to the Eastern Region.
  • Serve as direct supervisor to senior management personnel in the Eastern Region.
  • Comply with, support and enforce all policies established by Council.
  • Serve as staff representative to the Eastern Regional Board.
  • Develop networks of external stakeholders, e.g. local and state labor federations, entertainment industry labor groups, and producers.
  • Build relationships and coalitions with internal stakeholders by visiting Liaison Cities, meeting with Members at large and Liaison Committee Members.
  • Serve as an Equity spokesperson on Eastern Regional matters in coordination with the Communications Department and the National Office.

Skills, Knowledge, and Ability

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience supervising staff with increasing responsibility and authority and 5 years of demonstrated successful leadership in a senior management role required
  • Experience in staff leadership position with a labor organization preferred
  • Experience with strategic planning and change management preferred
  • Previous experience working with a board of directors required
  • Proven success serving as a lead negotiator required
  • Ability to work in a high pressure environment required
  • Demonstrated success in relationship building required
  • Experience in the performing arts highly preferred
  • Extensive travel required

Audition Center Associate

Summary Actors' Equity Association is currently seeking applicants to fill the position of Audition Center Associate in our New York office. The ideal candidate, reporting to the Director of the Auditions Department, will provide key administrative support and facilities management for the Audition Center. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Assign and schedule personnel to adequately staff all auditions in New York City.
  • Record and enter audition notices into a searchable database.
  • Act as primary staff resource for users of the Audition Center.
  • Manage and proactively assess and address the needs of the Audition Center facility.
  • Maintain a working familiarity with Audition policies and procedures.

Education, Skills and Abilities

  • Bachelor's degree (and/or two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Experience supporting facilities, interacting with people, and solving related problems in a customer service environment required.
  • Excellent communication skills required.
  • Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook are required.

Compensation

  • Salary: $624/week
