Equity Council Approves Strike Benefits For Actors, Stage Managers in Broadway Musicals

At its meeting on Thursday, March 13, 2003, the Council of Actor's Equity approved strike benefits for actors and stage managers in Broadway musicals who were affected by the recent musicians' strike.

The benefit will pay each actor or stage manager $100 per missed performance, or $100 for each day of missed rehearsal. Over 650 Equity members were rehearsing or performing in twenty Broadway musicals between March 7th and 10th, 2003.

Alan Eisenberg, Equity's Executive Director, calculated the total cost at approximately $325,000 to the Association.

Equity President Patrick Quinn acknowledged the strong show of solidarity and support that Equity members demonstrated during the musicians' strike. "This historic demonstration of unity by the Broadway unions has shown the industry our commitment to live theater and the welfare of all those who create it," he said in a message to Broadway cast members.
