Stage Managers at Institutional Off Broadway Theatres Receive Retroactive Vacation Pay Under Equity Rules

Off Broadway Minimums Increase in Most Categories by 3% As Of October 27, 2003

Good news for Stage Managers working Off Broadway! If you have worked 25 weeks or more in one year under an Off Broadway Contract - or multiple contracts - for the same institutional theatre company, you are entitled to vacation pay !

The rule is being enforced by Equity Business Representative Sheila Mathews, who collected monies from several prominent Off Broadway theatre companies on behalf of three stage managers recently. The theatre companies include the New York Shakespeare Festival and the New York Theatre Workshop.

"The vacation pay is based on a formula that can go up to one week's contractual salary," said Mathews. "The theatres were fully cooperative and understood the rule."

Mathews also reported that, as of October 27, 2003, minimums under the Off Broadway contract increased by 3% in most categories, including all "C," "D," and "E" theatres (251 - 499 seats) and in "A" categories grossing less than $38,559 and "B" categories grossing less than $60,683.00 . Salary information is available online at www.actorsequity.org in the Document Library, under Off Broadway Rule 60.
