Holiday Basket Project Gets Underway in New York
Latessa and Fierstein

Dick Latessa and Harvey Fierstein of Broadway's smash musical HAIRSPRAY helped kick off Equity's 2002 Stephen J. Falat Holiday Basket Project. The Project, established in 1986 and named for its originator who died from AIDS, delivers large, colorful shopping bags (aka "baskets") filled with goodies and essentials--clothing, books, CDs, candy, toiletries, and more--to local hospitals and AIDS organizations to brighten the holidays of people living with AIDS. All merchandise is new and has been donated by corporations and individuals.

This year, volunteers will deliver over 2,500 "baskets" to more than 20 hospitals, AIDS hospices, pediatric AIDS centers and HIV community services in the New York metropolitan area.

If you would like to help fill the baskets, or have a car or van and can assist with the deliveries, call Anne Fortuno at Equity, (212) 869-8530, ext. 409. The basket filling starts Monday, December 9th and goes through Friday, December 20th.

Members of Equity's Stephen J. Falat Basket Project Committee are Arne Gundersen (Chair), Austin Colyer, Maureen Moore, Jean-Paul Richard and Mark Zimmerman.
