| EQUITY'S "GYPSY ROBE" PRESENTED TO BRIAN J. MARCUM in THE BOY FROM OZ | ||||||
Brian J. Marcum is the newest recipient of Actors' Equity's "Gypsy Robe" for the 2003-2004 Broadway season. The colorful garment was presented on the opening night (Thursday, October 16, 2003) of THE BOY FROM OZ, recreating an historic, theatrical ritual that began on Broadway over 50 years ago. Brian's credits include the original Broadway casts of 42ND STREET, SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER, THE GERSHWIN'S FASCINATING RHYTHM, as well as national tours of ANNIE GET YOUR GUN and STATE FAIR. Equity Chorus Councillor Bill Bateman kicked off the ceremony at the Imperial by introducing Equity's Executive Director, Alan Eisenberg, Equity Second Vice President Jean-Paul Richard, Communications Director David Lotz and Outreach/Education Coordinator Rob Roznowski, as well as Robe Historian Gloria Rosenthal. Carmen Ruby Floyd, the previous recipient from AVENUE Q, explained the rules and history of the robe before announcing the "winner." Brian donned the resplendent costume and circled the stage three times in accordance with the robe tradition to bring "blessings" to the new musical - and a new season on Broadway! |
