Playwright Gretchen Cryer Taking Her Act to Professional Women's Networking Event on Monday evening, July 28, at The Players

Playwright/lyricist/actor Gretchen Cryer, best known for writing the book and lyrics and starring in I'm Getting My Act Together and Taking It On The Road, will be the special guest at a Blatant Self-Interest Networking Event sponsored by the New York Coalition of Professional Women in the Arts & Media on Monday, July 28, 2003 beginning at 6 p.m. at The Players, 16 Gramercy Park South (20th Street and Park Avenue South).

The event provides participants with an opportunity to network with members of related organizations and to share experiences and career goals.

I'm Getting My Act Together and Taking It On The Road (with music by Nancy Ford) was originally produced in New York City by Joseph Papp's Public Theatre, followed by a three-year run at the Circle-in-the-Square. The show subsequently had over 100 foreign productions around the world. In Chicago, the show won the Joseph Jefferson Award as Best Musical and Ms. Cryer was named the Best Actress.

The cast album received a Grammy nomination. Her other collaborations with Nancy Ford include Now is The Time For All Good Men (Theatre de Lys, 1967); The Last Sweet Days of Isaac (East Side Playhouse, 1970), which won the Obie and Drama Desk Awards as Best Musical; SHELTER (Golden Theatre, 1973); Hang On to The Good Times (Manhattan Theatre Club, 1985); The Fabulous Party (Williamstown Theatre Festival, 1986), and The American Girls Revue (American Girls Place, Chicago, 1988). Her new play, CHANGING, is under option, as is a screenplay, Back in My Life.

The New York Coalition of Professional Women in the Arts & Media was organized in 1990 to work for the advancement of women in the performing arts and media industries. Affiliates of the Coalition include: American Federation of Television and Radio Artists; Dramatists Guild; League of Professional Theatre Women/NY; NY Women in Film & Television; Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers and Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation, and the Women's Committees of Actors' Equity Association, Screen Actors Guild and Writers Guild of America, East.

Pre-paid admission to the Blatant Self-Interest Networking Event is $12. Checks postmarked by July 23 may be sent to The New York Coalition of Professional Women in the Arts & Media, Inc., P.O.
