|Actors' Equity Appoints Russell Lehrer to Business Representative, Production Contract Touring|
Russell Lehrer, a Business Representative for Developing Theatres in the Eastern Region, has been appointed to the position of Business Representative for the Production Contract Touring desk. The announcement was made by Equity's Eastern Regional Director Carol Waaser and Senior Business Representative Ken Greenwood. Russell will also be the staff liaison to the Stage Manager's Committee in the Eastern Region.
Lehrer graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with a degree in Biomedical Chemical Engineering, and remained for graduate studies in Theatre Arts Management. As a dramaturg, he acted a musical theater and popular song historian for the Smithsonian Institution. In New York, he has worked for Richard Frankel Productions, Manhattan Theatre Club, City Center and Jujamcyn Theaters, gaining experience as a Stage Manager, Company Manager, and House Manager. For seven years, Lehrer assisted director Jerry Zaks on Broadway, off-Broadway, film and television projects before coming to Actors' Equity in August, 2001.
"Everything I've done in my professional life -- stage management, company management, dramaturgy -- has been about making theater happen, and, in whatever way possible, allowing Actors and artists to just concentrate on making their art," said Russell. "I see my job at AEA as a natural extension of that advocacy."
