New AEA Member Center Prepares to Open in Chicago Invitational "Sneak Preview" and 90th Anniversary Celebration Monday, September 8, 2003 - 3 to 6 PM

Chicago member center nears completion

Open House for All Equity Members - Friday, October 3, 2003 In Conjunction with Central Regional Membership Meeting

The eagerly anticipated Equity Member Center in Chicago is nearing completion, and to commemorate the event there will be an Invitational "Sneak Preview" and 90th Anniversary Celebration on Monday, September 8, 2003 from 3 to 6 PM. Equity President Patrick Quinn and Equity's Executive Director Alan Eisenberg will join Central Regional Vice President Dev Kennedy, Central Regional Director Kathryn V. Lamkey, and Central Regional Councillors and Board Members in welcoming guests from throughout the region to tour Equity's new facility.

Later this fall, on Friday, October 3, 2003, Equity will host an Open House for all Equity members in conjunction with the fall Membership Meeting, at which time members are invited to tour the new Member Center and Equity office space.

Located in the same building on the same floor as the Chicago Equity office at 125 South Clark Street, the Member Center is a 1,300 square-foot facility that will be used primarily for auditions and other special programming. The Center has a mirrored wall, ballet barre, sprung floor, and a piano to accommodate musical and dance auditions. The lobby/reception area has two changing rooms. Other activities currently being planned include a new members' orientation session, a Stage Managers' CPR certification and first aid training seminar, and a health fair sponsored by the University of Illinois Chicago.

"This facility is a valuable and important benefit that Equity will be providing to its members," said Eisenberg and Lamkey. Ms. Lamkey further stated, "For a long time it has been the strong desire of the area members, as well as our Board and staff, to have a regional member center that would serve the interests of the membership and encourage producers to hold more auditions in this part of the country. We're extremely proud that we've achieved that goal."

The Center is open to all Equity producers for interviews and auditions with discounted rental rates that are competitive with similar facilities. The Member Center and Equity office, conveniently located in downtown Chicago's revitalized theatre district, are easily accessible by public transportation.

In conjunction with its September 8th Invitational Sneak Preview of the new Member Center, Equity is also celebrating its 90th Anniversary. Founded in 1913, Actors' Equity represents more than 45,000 actors and stage managers in the United States, seeking to advance, promote and foster the art of live theatre as an essential component of our society.
