Prestigious Chicago Theatre Company Inaugurates New Performance Space For 2003-2004 Season

Chicago's Writers' Theatre has announced that Jennifer Bielstein has been named its new Managing Director. Ms. Bielstein, the former Director of Marketing and Communications for Steppenwolf Theatre, has replaced outgoing Managing Director John Adams, who is leaving to pursue a writing career.

Writers' Theatre Artistic Director Michael Halberstram and Board President Carol Dawley made the announcement, noting that her appointment coincides with the Writers' Theatre's first season in a new performance space. "Writers' is fortunate to have gained a Managing Director with Jennifer's experience, knowledge and dedication," said Halberstam. "Her proven marketing and audience development skills beautifully compliment our goals for our new performance venue."

Equity's Central Regional Director, Kathryn V. Lamkey, said, "Writers' Theatre is one of the brightest stars on the Chicago theatre scene. We are delighted that Ms. Bielstein has joined them at this exciting time. Their name may be 'Writers' Theatre, but ask anyone in town and they would say it is an 'actor's theatre' as well. "

Writers' Theatre is a professional Equity theatre company "dedicated to a theatre of language and passion. The word and the artist are the primary focus of all productions, bringing audiences face to face with literature's greatest creators and creations in an intimate environment." For the past 12 years Writers' Theater has performed in the anteroom of "Books on Vernon" at 664 Vernon Avenue in Glencoe. This fall, the company will open its 2003-04 season at their new 108-seat thrust stage performance venue at 325 Tudor Court - two blocks away. The new space will bring a new level of intimacy to its productions, while doubling the size of its house.

The 2003-04 Season opens in September with OUR TOWN (September 30-December 7, 2003), directed by William Brown and continues in January with MY OWN STRANGER (January 20-March 28, 2004), directed by Kate Buckley. In keeping with the company's tradition, the third production of the season BENEFACTORS (March 2-July 11, 2004), directed by Gary Griffin, will be performed at the Bookstore venue at 664 Vernon Avenue. Rounding out the season is THE DOCTOR'S DILEMMA (May 11-July 18, 2004), will be performed in the new venue, and is directed by Michael Halberstam.

Bielstein also serves on the board of directors for About Face Theatre, and is the Chairperson for the League of Chicago Theatres Marketing Committee, as well as being a member of the board for that organization. Previously she worked for Northlight Theatre as well as Apple Tree Theatre and has appeared as a guest speaker for the American Marketing Association, the Arts and Business Council of Chicago, Kellogg School of Business, the Illinois Theater Association and the League of Chicago Theatres Annual Conference.
