|Bay Area Theatre (BAT) Contract Set to Expire Negotiations Begin July 16, 2003|
The Bay Area Theatre (BAT) Contract expires on July 20, 2003. According to Equity Western Regional Director John Holly and San Francisco staff member Jane Shaffer, negotiations will begin on July 16, 2003 in the Western Region.
The BAT contract covers non-profit, seasonal theatres with less than 399 seats located in the nine-county Bay Area. The five theatres that will negotiate the contract with Equity are: Aurora Theatre Company (Berkeley), Magic Theatre (San Francisco), Marin Theatre Company (Mill Valley), Pacific Stage Alliance Stage Company (Rohnert Park), and the San Jose Stage Company (San Jose).
Two other theatres that use the BAT are the 42nd Street Moon (San Francisco), and Geoffrey Chaucer & Company (San Rafael). Other theatres use a Modified Bay Area Theatre (MBAT) agreement, referenced to the BAT.
According to Equity's comprehensive Annual Report (2002), the BAT generated over 1800 work weeks, and $668,000 in earnings for Equity members in the Bay area.
