Add your role to Equity's Non-Traditional Casting Map
by Christina Toy Johnson
In celebration of Non-Traditional Casting triumphs across the country, in January of 2002 the Equal Employment Opportunity Committee and Membership Education Committee launched the Non-Traditional Casting Map in the National Office’s Audition Center, in NYC.
Members are encouraged to notify AEA about non-traditional roles that they’ve seen and /or done, starting with the 1999-2000 season. These roles are represented by corresponding pennant pins on the map and documented in an adjacent book. To be included on the map, please write, call or email Willie Boston c/o Actors’ Equity Association, 165 West 46 Street, NYC, NY 10036, 212-869-8530, email@example.com. Please list the name of the actor who did the role, the name of the role and the show, and the name and location of the theatre.
Non-traditional Casting is defined as: The casting of actors with disabilities, ethnic minorities (African-American, Asian American, Hispanic-American, Native-American), seniors and women Actors in roles where race, gender, age or the presence or absence of a disability is not germane.
