WBAI, owned by the Pacifica Foundation, is the only station represented by the AFTRA New York Local that receives up to 85% of its budget through private donations. This progressive, non-commercial radio station provides a public voice for the unions in the New York area.

WBAI's Fall pledge drive fell $400,000 short of its fundraising goal, and the station anticipates a 40% staff reduction if an additional $300,000 is not raised by December 31st. To reach this target, WBAI is sponsoring a special Radiothon December 12th through 14th, in which celebrity guests will entertain or perform as interim hosts.
