Tri-Union Presence at ActorFest
Tom Miller and Chris Eid

Representatives from AEA, SAG & AFTRA showed a unified front at ActorFest NY this year. The annual event, sponsored by Backstage, drew a huge crowd of attendees to the Marriot Marquis in Times Square on October 26.

The three unions shared two tables at the front of the exhibit hall, and passed out informational pamphlets to more than 500 interested individuals.

Christopher Eid, Equity's Outreach & Education Coordinator, and Tom Miller, Councillor, fielded numerous questions about how and when to join Equity. "It's not an automatic decision for everyone," Eid said. "It's important for most actors or stage managers to build a healthy resume before they consider joining. While the situation is different for each individual, we're doing our best to educate people about all the ramifications of union membership." Eid also noted that Equity will be holding an Open House for interested non-members on Tuesday, November 12.

In addition to the presence in the exhibit hall, a focus group session on the "Hows, Whys and Whens of Joining a Union" was presented by Miller, along with Connie Best (AFTRA) and Lowell Williams (SAG). Equity President Patrick Quinn was also a special guest on a panel called "I Hope I Get It" on preparing for an audition.
