On Sunday night, June 13th, 60 members, producers and guests gathered at Le Petit Theatre in New Orleans’ French Quarter for a night of Food, Fun and Tony’s. The evening was sponsored by the New AEA Liaison committee. “We wanted to do something fun to bring the membership together in an upbeat atmosphere to foster conversation and goodwill in our theater community. We have a lot of new members and young producers who we felt needed to be welcomed and we wanted to start off our new era as a Liaison City with something positive which we could point to when asked what we do for the members,” stated John Bostic, selected Liaison chair.

The evening started with a full-course buffet, catered by New Orleans member and 1995 Tony nominee, Lady BJ Crosby and member, Carol Sutton, currently seen on TREME. The meal, consisting of several appetizers, baked and fried chicken wings, two kinds of rice dishes, ham, fish, salad, pasta salad, baked ziti, vegetables, hand cut fruit and several desserts including 10 dozen hand-made AEA Cookies as novelties was supplied by the ladies with additions by several of the committee members. Cash-bar and facilities including the cabaret theater with seating for 100 and full stage projection of the Tony Awards ceremony were provided by The Solomon Group, managers of Le Petit.

NOLA Tropical Wineries provided a free wine tasting which was conducted by EMC Candidate Vatican Lokey while several local businesses and individuals donated prizes for our raffle including a wine tasting from Wine Institute of New Orleans, a massage from Spa, a custom rehearsal bag with AEA/NOLA on it, Barnes and Nobles CDs from the nominated musicals, Michael Cahill’s Who is Stocker Fontelieu?-a book on the history of New Orleans Theater from the author, A Tony’s cooking gift set, hand painted martini glasses and an antique Mardi Gras mask and hat set donated by Edward Cox Designs.

All in all, it was a terrific evening. “I believe this is the largest AEA event New Orleans has had. We had members from as far away as Baton Rouge come in for it. The Times Picayune society editor was here, it has been listed in events for the weekend and on local TV. We even had a step and repeat banner made so we could have a red carpet entry with pictures of everyone who attended. It has been a lot of work but also a lot of fun. And, no one throws a party like New Orleans!” according to party chair Meredith Long.

We can hardly wait until next year! Hopefully we’ll have even more people and more great things to celebrate!
