Gypsy Robe - "13"
![]() Following tradition, Eamon makes
his way around the circle three times Eamon Foley is the latest recipient of Equity's colorful Gypsy Robe, for "13," the new Broadway musical directed by Jeremy Sams and choreographed by Christopher Gattelli. The colorful garment was presented to Eamon at the opening performance (Sunday, October 5, 2008) at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre, recreating a time-honored tradition that began over 50 years ago. Lavishly decorated with mementos from recent Broadway musicals, the robe is given to the cast member with the most Broadway chorus credits. Eamon has previously performed in four Broadway musicals, including GRINCH '07 & '08, ASSASSINS and GYPSY. The Gypsy Robe ceremony began as the cast and crew gathered onstage just 90 minutes before curtain and formed a large circle. Equity's National Chorus Business Representative David Westphal welcomed everyone, including Equity VP Ira Mont, and invited the company members who were making their Broadway debut to raise their hands proudly in the air. Former robe recipients stepped into the circle to be introduced, then Devin Richards, the most recent recipient of the robe for A TALE OF TWO CITIES, introduced his fellow cast member who will be turning 13 soon, Miles Kath. Miles described the history of the robe before announcing the winner: Eamon Foley. Foley, grinning from ear to ear, excitedly donned the garment and circled the stage three times before visiting each dressing room to bestow the robe's "blessings." 13 is a high-energy musical about growing up, dealing with change and learning that becoming who you want to be starts with discovering who you are.
