David Westphal Named Equity National Chorus Rep

Equity National Chorus Rep David Westphal

David Westphal, an Equity member since 1970, a Chorus performer for 25 years, an Equity Councillor for 20 years, and a longtime champion of Chorus, is the new-and first-Equity National Chorus Business Representative. He will work out of the New York office, but will be traveling to the Regional offices on matters of concern to Chorus. In his new role, Mr. Westphal also will be the liaison with the Advisory Committee on Chorus Affairs and staff representative for the Gypsy Robe.

"I'm extremely excited and happy to be coming home to Equity," said Mr. Westphal. "I couldn't have found a better fit or a more perfect job to combine my abilities and experience."

Mr. Westphal joined Equity in 1970 while appearing in LITTLE ME at The Little Theatre On The Square in Sullivan, Illinois. He then moved to New York and began a career dancing and singing in over 40 productions, including HELLO, DOLLY! With Carol Channing, GOOD NEWS with Alice Faye and CABARET with Jack Gilford. He danced for Peter Gennaro in three productions at Radio City Music Hall when stage shows alternated with films and there were four shows a day. He has worked under Production, Dinner Theatre, Stock and Stock Jobbing contracts and has extensive experience as a Dance Captain, Deputy and Assistant Choreographer. In 1981 he was elected to Council in the Chorus category and served for 20 years. He was Vice Chair of the Advisory Committee on Chorus Affairs and also a member of the President's Planning, Production Contract, Deputy, and Dance Captain Committees and served on negotiating teams and Nominating Committees.

"I feel strongly that my understanding of both Chorus rules and Council procedures puts me two steps ahead of the game, and I'm looking forward to the challenges ahead," Mr. Westphal concluded.
