August Wilson

August Wilson

A celebration of the life and work of playwright August Wilson, featuring Lloyd Richards, Mary Alice, Kenny Leon, Charles S. Dutton, Leslie Uggams, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Ben Cameron, Lou Bellamy and others.

You might have heard of the unfortunate news of August Wilson's battle with inoperable liver cancer. It has hit the theater company very hard, and specifically, the Black Theatre community most hard.

In the spirit of acknowledging a life of great accomplishments and gifts bestowed to this art form, Rick Khan and Woodie King, Jr. have designed a seminal event for theater artists, administrators and those who love the theater to come together and pay honor, reflect and celebrate a life fully lived and a body of work that changed the American Theater. This celebration will include words by Lloyd Richards, Mary Alice, Kenny Leon, Charles S. "Roc" Dutton, Leslie Uggams, Brain Stokes Mitchell, Ben Cameron, Lou Bellamy, Walter Dallas, Rick Khan, Dr. Vernell A. Lillie (Univ. Of Pittsburgh), and others. It will be held on Oct 23rd from 3pm to 5pm at the soon-to-be-named August Wilson Theatre (presently the Virginia Theatre), 245 W. 52nd St., New York, NY.

Tickets for the general public will be on a non-reserved, first come-first serve basis. Additional information will be posted.
