Actors’ Equity, University Resident Theatre Association (U/RTA) Reach Tentative Agreement For Three-Year Pact

Higher Health Contributions Achieved

Actor’s Equity and the University Resident Theatre Association reached a tentative agreement on terms for a new three-year contract following negotiations from January 21 – 23, 2004 in New York. Equity Western Regional Vice President ,Doug Carfrae chaired the Negotiating Team. Equity Senior Business Representative Zalina Hoosein (Eastern Region) was Chief Negotiator.

“Equity achieved a significant money package from U/RTA, which we were able to allocate equitably between salaries and health payments,” said Hoosein. The proposed U/RTA contract will be presented to Council at its upcoming meeting in March.

Equity’s Negotiating Team included Carfrae (Chair), Brenda Thomas (2nd Vice Chair), Tom Joyce, Irma Rogers, Andrea McCullough, and Maureen Sadusk. Participating Equity staff members included Hoosein, and Business Representatives Ed Barnes, Luther Goins, Russell Lehrer, Marty McDonough, and Beverly Sloan.

U/RTA’s team was headed by Executive Director Scott Steele.

According to Equity’s recently published Annual Report, the U/RTA agreement generated over $1 million in earnings for Equity members in 2002-2003, providing over 1800 workweeks and 275 jobs.

A joint press release will be issued following ratification by the Council.
