Dakin Matthews, Kathryn Meisle, Earl Hindman and Carol Schultz Receive Actors' Equity Awards for Outstanding Performances in Shakespearean and Classic Dramas

St. Clair Bayfield and Callaway Awards Presented On Friday January 9, 2004

Dakin Matthews, who plays dual roles in HENRY IV at Lincoln Center, has received Actors' Equity's prestigious St. Clair Bayfield Award, honoring the best performance by an actor in a Shakespearean play in the New York metropolitan area. The award, featuring a crystal plaque and a $1000 honorarium, was presented at the AEA membership meeting in New York on Friday, January 9 2004.

Also receiving awards were Earl Hindman, Kathryn Meisle, and Carol Schultz, who received the Joe A. Callaway Award for best performances in a classic play (written prior to 1920) in a New York metropolitan area production.

Mr. Hindman, who recently passed away, received the award for his performance in the title role in Shakespeare's JULIUS CAESAR at Theatre for A New Audience. Jeffrey Horowitz, Producing Director of Theatre For A New Audience presented the award to Earl Hindman's wife, the Rev. Molly McGreevy.

Ms. Meisle was recognized for her performance in Moliere's TARTUFFE at the Roundabout; she received her award from Councillor Dana Ivey; Ms. Schultz was cited for her performance as Mrs. Malaprop in Sheridan's THE RIVALS presented by the Pearl Theatre Company. The award was presented by Pearl Theatre's Associate Director Joanne Camp.

Councillor Emeritus Carl Harms is President of the Actors' Equity Foundation, which administers the awards.
