We need your help to stop the road show crisis!

Broadway touring shows are presented in cities across the country. However, many are not real Broadway productions – because they don’t use Equity actors and stage managers, like you. In 2003, 60% of all touring shows were Actors’ Equity productions, compared to 90% in 1993. This crisis is hurting us all and undercutting the wage, benefit and working condition standards that we have fought for on the road and on Broadway.

Producers of shows like MISS SAIGON, OLIVER! and OKLAHOMA! hire non-union actors and stage managers and they make larger profits off their shows by:

  • Paying actors and stage managers less than one-third of what their Equity counterparts receive.
  • Offering health insurance of practically no value.
  • Promoting the shows as Broadway productions and charging ticket prices that are comparable to Equity productions. However, they don't tell audiences what they are getting for their money!

We must protest this proliferation of non-Equity productions and preserve Broadway’s reputation for excellence.

Please call, email or write the theaters presenting these three shows and tell them that actors and stage managers deserve to be treated like professionals and with respect, and that audiences across the country deserve real Broadway productions.

We’ve listed the contact information for theaters where these shows are headed next. If you, your family or friends live in one of the cities, please call, email or write the theaters and tell them you want to see real Broadway productions. If it’s not Equity, it’s not Broadway!

Thank you for your support.
