AEA’s GYPSY ROBE®

A Historic 60-Year Backstage Tradition on Broadway

Betsy Struxness Makes History at Hamilton in the “hardest but most rewarding show” of her career

“To be part of a tradition that honors someone for their work as an ensemble member is in fact just that — an honor. We tend to get lost in the background noise of the buzz that surrounds any given Broadway show, but usually, more is being asked from the ensemble than any other member of the performing company. To be recognized for that hard work and that passion is lovely and, to receive the robe for Hamilton is particularly wonderful as it's the hardest but most rewarding show I have yet to be a part of. Hearing my name called brought forth a sense of pride and humility. What I remember the most is the circle of smiling faces as I ran around the stage during the “good luck” blessing of the robe. Those smiles held so much love.” – Betsy Struxness
