A Historic 65-Year Backstage Tradition on Broadway

She Made it Happen: Miami native Nina Lafarga earns the Gypsy Robe for On Your Feet! mirroring her own journey to the Broadway stage

“The Gypsy Robe is such an important and empowering tradition because it is one of the rare times that one person from the ensemble is singled out and acknowledged by the entire Broadway community for the contribution they have made over the course of their career. Members of the ensemble contribute to a show’s creation in such profound ways. They create the world that the show lives in and add vital style, color, energy and emotion that then inspires and uplifts other cast members, carrying the show to a whole new level. When I was presented with the Robe I felt incredibly honored and grateful. What I remember most about the ceremony is all of the love I felt from everyone in the circle. There was a true magic in the air that words cannot express. To have received it for On Your Feet! was so special because the show represents so much of who I am and where I come from — in many ways it tells my story and is a musical that celebrates culture, family, history and love.”
