AEA’s GYPSY ROBE® A Historic 65-Year Backstage Tradition on Broadway
Joining the “Gypsy Club,” Grasan Kingsberry marks his 10th Broadway chorus musical with The Color Purple “What an honor. I feel it is so important to celebrate and practice traditions as they are the glue that binds a community together. The Gypsy Robe is one of those particularly special traditions of the Broadway community. To be recognized by, and in the company of such Broadway legendries, is like being a part of an awesome all-star “Gypsy Club” for the rest of your life — and that's the best part. Being a Gypsy Robe honoree, twice now, reminds me of how fortunate I am to be a part of a community of friends, colleagues and folks that I've grown close to and love. What I recall from the ceremony is lots and lots of smiling happy faces and a true sense and feeling tone of love and joy all around. At the end of the day, that's what it's all about.”
