AEA’s GYPSY ROBE®

“Magical” Bahiyah Hibah is honored with Equity’s Gypsy Robe®

A Historic 60-Year Backstage Tradition on Broadway

“The Gypsy Robe® symbolizes the accomplishments of countless ensemble members who are part of a team – a team that is often unrecognized because the chorus, by definition, is not the leading men or women in the cast. For me, it's an absolute honor to be acknowledged for being a supportive team player in this company.” – Bahiyah Hibah

Led by company members Kristin Chenoweth and Peter Gallagher, the cast and crew of Roundabout’s On the Twentieth Century gathered on stage for the famed Gypsy Robe® ceremony on March 12, 2015, at Broadway’s American Airlines Theatre. Much to her surprise, Bahiyah Hibah, an eloquent dancer with seven musical chorus credits to her name, was deemed “magical” by fellow cast mates as she made her way forward and was officially deemed the show’s Gypsy Robe® honoree.

This colorful ceremony, which honors a chorus member (a “gypsy”) who has the most Broadway chorus credits, is a cherished backstage tradition.
