SAN DIEGO ACTING CLASSES

Why take class? In most cities, ongoing classes are considered a necessity for working actors. Yet in San Diego, working actors in classes are an exception rather than the norm. For many actors, the idea of adding a class into the mix seems like a big hassle. You are already learning lines and working on material in shows (not to mention that you probably have a day job). Adding more to your workload may seem like just too much. Why bother?

It is good to consider that working with a director is different from working with a teacher. A director's primary consideration is in making a good show. That may or may not help you progress as an actor. Often what a director wants from you is something you already do well. That's why you were cast. As a result, forward progress in your work may be minimal. A good acting class gives you the opportunity to grow, free of the demands of "product", working on specific areas where you my feel stagnant or blocked. You are working in an environment where you can take more risks - even have successful failures.

Additionally, you may meet new faces from the community, which can never hurt!

Here are some ongoing acting classes catering to local professionals. Please note that AEA and the Liaison Committee do not endorse specific classes or teachers.

WHAT IS THE SAN DIEGO LIAISON COMMITTEE?

The Area Liaison system was established in 24 locales where a substantial number of members reside. Along with the Chair of the San Francisco/Bay Area Advisory Committee (BAAC), Area Liaisons are volunteers, selected by other members in their areas, to facilitate communications with the staff in the appropriate Equity office, Regional Board or the Council. Area Liaisons and the BAAC Chair are not official representatives of Equity, nor are they authorized to act on any policy or contractual matters.

Each Area Liaison locale maintains a hotline (San Diego's is 877-232-1913 x835) with information about local auditions and other local news items. Area Liaison Committees usually meet twice or three times per year. All local area members are encouraged to attend.
