Actors’ Equity Chanteuses Belt and Croon for a Cause

On Tuesday night, December 14th, the New Orleans Actors’ Equity Association is presenting a cabaret spectacular to benefit philanthropic organizations in two cities. The fund raiser, titled DIVAS TAKE ACTION! will be at Le Chat Noir and ticket proceeds will benefit both the NO/AIDS Taskforce of New Orleans, and a Chicago organization with a similar mission, Season of Concern.

DIVAS TAKE ACTION !, a one-night only event will showcase five of New Orleans’ top musical theater actresses performing selections from various shows seen on New Orleans stages over the years. The evening stars four Big Easy Theater Award winners: Amy Alvarez, Troi Bechet, Meredith Long and Jessie Terrebonne, plus New Orleans own Broadway veteran Leslie Castay. Each of these ladies brings a unique style and energy to the stage. Add a special guest appearance by popular Bryan Batt, from the original cast of Emmy winning television show, Mad Men, and the piano stylings of the show’s ‘one woman orchestra,’ accompanist, Jonne Dendinger and the audience is in for a wonderful evening.

Luther Goins, who manages Actors’ Equity/ New Orleans from the Chicago office is delighted at the enthusiasm and proactive attitude of the growing Equity Theater community here, “These New Orleans performers are all donating their talents and time to raise money for two major charities that provide valuable assistance to individuals with serious health problems including those living with the AIDS virus. This is the first of what the organizers hope will become an annual holiday event to raise money for people in two communities who need special assistance.”

The Actors’ Equity Association is the prestigious nationwide union for stage professionals. Membership is considered an indicator of experience and skill and induction requires evidence of a body of qualified work in multiple professional theater productions.

Limited seating available! DIVAS IN ACTION! tickets are $50 which includes $5 of credit in the Bar Noir.(A portion of each ticket is tax deductible.) On sale now through Le Chat Noir’s box office at or by phone Tuesday –Saturday from 2-4 pm at 504-581-5812.
