Broadway by the Bay will no longer be permitted use of the Guest Artist Contract for their 2011 Season Equity recently reviewed Broadway by the Bay’s long time use of the Guest Artist Contract and it was determined that after the 2010 season, the theater would no longer be allowed to use the contract as it has for the last nine seasons. Equity feels that given the theater’s projected income and budget, and the length of time the theater has used the Guest Artist contract it would now be appropriate for Broadway by the Bay to move to a seasonal Equity contract with a guarantee of contracts reflective of their professional aspirations. Broadway by the Bay appealed Equity's decision at the June 3, 2010 Western Regional Board (WRB) meeting. After hearing the appeal by the theater, the WRB deliberated and ultimately voted to deny the appeal. It is Equity’s hope that discussions with Broadway by the Bay can continue and the theater will be able to move to a contract with Equity that will be mutually satisfactory to both the Union and the theater so that Equity members may participate in productions during the 2011 season and beyond.
