Lorin Latarro Garners Gypsy Robe In GUYS AND DOLLS
![]() Lauren Graham, Craig Bierko, Oliver Platt, and Lorin Latarro Lorin Latarro is the latest recipient of Equity's coveted Gypsy Robe for GUYS AND DOLLS. Recreating a time-honored tradition that began more than 50 years ago, the Robe was presented to Ms. Latarro on opening night at the Nederlander Theatre on Sunday, March 1, 2009. The Robe was presented to her by SHREK robe recipient Jennifer Cody. Colorfully decorated with appliqués from other Broadway musicals, the Gypsy Robe is given to the chorus member with the most Broadway musical chorus credits. Ms. Latarro has appeared on Broadway in A CHORUS LINE, CURTAINS, THE APPLE TREE, MOVIN' OUT, MAN OF LA MANCHA, KISS ME, KATE, FOSSE, SPAMALOT, and WONDERFUL TOWN. This is her 10th Equity Broadway show. The Gypsy Robe ceremony began as the cast and crew gathered onstage just before curtain and formed a large circle. Equity's National Chorus Business Representative David Westphal welcomed everyone and asked Lauren Graham, the only company member making their Broadway debut to come forward, where she received an ovation of applause from her fellow cast members to welcome her to Broadway! Next, David invited past recipients of the robe to be acknowledged, including Bill Nabel, Roger Preston Smith, Graham Rowat, William Ryall, Lorin Latarro and Michael Balderrama. He then invited Jennifer Cody to step to the center of the circle to make the presentation. Jennifer described the Robe's illustrious history and the rules for the ceremony: each new recipient must circle the stage three times counter-clockwise and visit everyone's dressing room to receive the robe's blessing. She then proclaimed the newest robe recipient: Lorin Latarro. Lorin dashed into center stage and eagerly donned the garment. Everyone applauded and reached out to touch the robe as she circled the stage. GUYS AND DOLLS was now "blessed" by the iconic Gypsy Robe.
