Childcare Update - Committee Volunteers Needed

Last spring, the Actors Fund launched a childcare survey to help address the needs of the NY metro area theatre community. With input from Equity's Parents Committee, an online childcare survey was conducted via Equity News and an e-blast. Over 600 Equity members responded to the questionaire.

62% of respondents indicated that child care issues had caused them to miss work and auditions, and 53% said that they would use a childcare center in Times Square with drop-off services. There were also numerous comments about the difficulties that actor-parents in finding affordable, convenient childcare.

The Actors Fund Child Care Committee will be working over the next year to see if babysitting co-ops can be established through online social networking sites. The Actors Fund is also exploring the possibility of creating a child care center in Times square with St. Malachy’s, the Actors Chapel. We need more volunteers to participate on the committee.
