Philadelphia AEA Members Celebrate "Philly Week" WHYY On-Air Telethon and Softball Picnic Bring Members Together
![]() Philly AEA members Kristen Burke, Pat Adams and Toni Downey In June, the Philadelphia Area Liaison Committee celebrated "Philly Week" to raise the profile of the local Philadelphia membership and get together for some summer fun. Philadelphia and the neighboring suburbs are home to almost 1,000 Equity members, as well as two dozen professional Equity theatres and a vibrant theatre scene.

The live telethon featured a guest appearance by comedian Rita Rudner (who is a proud Equity member), as well as interview with National Communications Director David Lotz, who talked about the importance of supporting Equity theatres. During the live segments, Ms. Rudner mingled with our volunteers and personally answered the phone for delighted callers!

Smart, and Shane Radford. "This was a great way for us to raise Equity's profile in the Philadelphia market, especially since WHYY is watched by culture-oriented viewers," said Christopher Sapienza, Chair of the Liaison Committee. "I especially wish to thank Jeanette Hartunian and all of our terrific volunteers." Batter up! The fun moved outdoors on June 16th to Fairmount Park, for the Liaison Committee's annual softball game and picnic. The Equity banner was proudly displayed behind home plate, as local members battled it out on the ball field. Look for an announcement about our upcoming fall membership meeting.
