How The Grinch Got the Gypsy Robe !
![]() William Ryall and Rusty Ross, who plays Young Max William Ryall, a chorus member in DR. SEUSS' HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS! is the latest recipient of Equity's legendary Gypsy Robe. The colorful garment was presented to William backstage at the Hilton Theatre on opening night (Wednesday, November 8, 2006) recreating the time-honored tradition that began over 50 years ago. Extravagantly decorated with mementos from recent Broadway musicals, the robe is given to the cast member with the most chorus credits. William has appeared in several Broadway shows, including CHITTY CHITTY, BANG BANG, ME AND MY GIRL, GRAND HOTEL, HIGH SOCIETY and THE BEST LITTLE WHOREHOUSE GOES PUBLIC. He previously received the robe in the revival of HOW TO SUCCEED… Equity Gypsy Robe Director Terry Marone began the ceremony by introducing several former recipients, including Brynn Williams (IN MY LIFE) and Bill Nabel (BEAUTY AND THE BEAST).
![]() William Ryall and the happy cast of GRINCH Lisa Gajda, who recently garnered the robe in THE TIMES THEY ARE A-CHANGIN,' took center stage and told about the history of the robe before announcing the newest recipient: William Ryall! William ceremoniously bowed to Lisa, then donned the robe and circled the stage three times as cast members touched it to receive its "blessing."
Also participating in the ceremony were Chorus Councillors Tom Miller and Scott Watanabe, and AEA Communications Director David Lotz.
