Ensembles Deserve Tony Award - Variety
Variety: "A B'way Group Hug" In Variety's "Critic's Notebook" this week, David Rooney bemoans the fact that there is no Tony Award for ensemble work. He cites the extraordinary ensemble work this season in shows like SWEENEY TODD, THE HISTORY BOYS, JERSEY BOYS, and RABBIT HOLE (among others) as deserving of Tony recognition. "Onstage, it's tight ensemble playing that often dictates a memorable theater experience. Without the safety net of retakes, actors must play off one another and maintain their harmony as a group regardless of the endless variables of mood, concentration or audience response...when the actors onstage are attuned to one another's rhythms, there's nothing like it."
