San Francisco AEA Members Garner Bay Area Critics Circle Awards

The 2005 Bay Area Critics Circle Awards garnered numerous wins for Actors' Equity Members. Presented each March, the BACCA's honor the outstanding achievements of Performing Arts individuals throughout the Bay Area. The BACCA's are determined by all critics from newspapers in the Bay Area, such as the San Jose Mercury News, Contra Costa Times, and the San Francisco Chronicle, among others. The BACCA's were founded during the 1976-77 theatrical season.

In Drama category, the winners for Principal Female Performance were Phoebe Moyer for A PERFECT GANESH at the Pacific Alliance Stage Co. and Robin Weigert for A MOON FOR THE MISBEGOTTEN at the American Conservatory Theater. For the Male Principal Performance, Charles Dean won for the production of THE PRICE at the Aurora Theatre. Jayne Houdyshell picked up a win for the Female Supporting Actress in WELL at the American Conservatory Theater. For the Male Supporting Performance in a Drama, Ken Ruta won for THE VOYSEY INHERITANCE at the American Conservatory Theater. Ron Campbell was awarded for THE THOUSANDTH NIGHT, at the Aurora Theatre.

In the Musical category there were also several wins. For the Female Principal performance the Awards went to Darlene Popovic for MINNIE'S BOYS at the 42nd Street Moon, Diana Torres Koss for SWEENEY TODD at the Foothill Music Theatre, and to Klea Blackhurst for RED, HOT AND BLUE at the 42nd Street Moon. The Male Principal Performance Awards went to David Curley for MISS LIBERTY at the 42nd Street Moon and to Mark Farrell for NOEL AND GERTIE at the Center Repertory Company. The Female Supporting Performance was awarded to Lucinda Hitchcock Cone for RIVER'S END at the Marin Theatre Company and Tiffany Thompson for CROWNS at Theatre Works. The Male Supporting Performance went to Francis Jue for INTO THE WOODS at Theatre Works. Francis also received an award for choreographer for INTO THE WOODS.
