June 16, 2004 Joint Statement by Actors' Equity Association and the League of American Theatres and Producers Dear Members of Actors' Equity Association and the League of American Theatres and Producers: We issued this joint statement to the media today that provides a brief update on the status of our Production Contract negotiations:
As you know, we are working hard at the bargaining table to reach an agreement, prior to the expiration of our current contract that is fair to both sides and helps to make our industry stronger. While we continue to negotiate, we have decided that it is in our mutual interests to focus our energies at the bargaining table and to avoid the distraction of media attention. Accordingly, we have entered into an agreement under which both sides have committed to refrain to making comments to the media, placing ads, engaging in events, or taking other actions intended to communicate about the negotiations or the issues involved in the contract deliberations. Both sides also agreed to notify our memberships of this promise, and to ask for your full cooperation. Thus, until further notice, please do not communicate with the media about the Production Contract negotiations. We will keep you apprised of developments in the negotiations through our normal channels. We thank you for your cooperation. Sincerely,
Alan Eisenberg
