10th Annual Health Fair is Big Success

The 10th Annual BWAY/Actors’ Fund Health Fair, sponsored by Better Wellness and You and The Actors’ Fund of America’s Al Hirschfeld Free Health Clinic, drew 174 entertainment professionals to the Equity Audition Center on Thursday, May 13, 2004. Event sponsors were pleased with the turnout.

The spring health fair focuses on complementary and alternative medicine, with a variety of health care providers and programs. Participants were able to take advantage of free chiropractic evaluations, nutritional information, and a variety of massage techniques, free mammograms, podiatry exams, colo-rectal cancer screenings, blood pressure, cholesterol and diabetes screening. Free information and referrals were provided by the Al Hirschfeld Free Clinic, the Ryan Chelsea-Clinton Community Health Center, and the Actors' Fund’s Artist Health Insurance Resource Center (AHIRC).

According to The Actors’ Fund, 22 participants signed up for iridology and acupuncture; 69 received Shiatsu, Reiki or Swedish massage; and 34 received mammograms among the other free services.

“We’d like to thank all of the providers for making this such a success,” said Actor’s Equity Communications Director David Lotz. For more information about free or low-cost health services available to entertainment industry workers, call The Actors’ Fund at 212-221-7300, or visit www.ahirc.org.
