Advocacy-Public Policy Update
National Any day now, a bill that would kill collective bargaining rights for postal workers and end mail delivery to your door is headed for a vote.

http://www.saveamericaspostalservice.org/petition.html With continued attacks on Saturday delivery and the future of the Postal Service at stake, the time to step up and let Congress hear America’s voice is now. Building off the success of the Save America’s Postal Service rallies last month, we are asking for your support of the “Save Six Day Delivery” petition drive.
Please spread the word! Over the next several weeks, the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction, the “super committee,” will produce a plan to reduce the federal deficit. It may include a package of proposals to fix the financial difficulties facing the United States Postal Service. Among the items the committee will consider is a proposal to allow the USPS to reduce the number of days of mail delivery from six to five. If enacted, this proposal could eliminate 80,000 USPS jobs alone! Tell Congress to protect one of America’s most valued and trusted institutions!

National The comprehensive web portal required by The Affordable Care Act went up July 1. It replaces existing websites that provided information on the law and its interpretation. Its primary purpose is to help individuals and families navigate health care, e.g., unemployed workers looking for coverage to replace employer coverage that they lost. It contains information on all applicable federal laws, links to state government resources, and a huge amount of information on private health plans (currently 5,100 plans) with pricing information scheduled to be added in October. |
