Royalties on cast albums are due only when the cost of making the album has been recouped. Depending on the sales of the album, this may not occur until 2-3 years after the album’s initial release. Most cast albums never actually recoup their initial costs and so royalties never become due. Producers are required to notify Equity every six months as to whether a cast album has recouped its cost and, if so, report to Equity that a royalty distribution has occurred. Equity also sends inquiries to Producers every six months if the Producer has not notified Equity regarding the status of a cast album. |
