Voting Privileges Actors' Equity is a member-driven, self-governing and self-supporting labor association, funded by members' dues and initiation fees. A Constitution and By-Laws, written, adopted and enforced by members, governs the overall structure and workings of the Union. The Council, comprised of 83 elected officers and Councillors, is Equity's ultimate decision-making body. Each year, about 20% of the members of Council are elected for five year terms. Equity is a democracy; each member has a voice in the formation of Equity's contracts and policies. Members who are in good standing and have reached the age of twelve are entitled to vote in Equity's annual elections. All members are encouraged to participate by joining committees, attending membership meetings, observing contract negotiations and VOTING. In 2003, Actors' Equity became the first actors' union to offer online voting in national elections.
