Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) VITA is an IRS-sponsored tax assistance program that was initiated by Equity in the 1970s. It is run on a volunteer basis by IRS-trained members and provides free tax preparation to paid-up members of Equity and other performing arts unions. There are currently programs at the Equity office in New York, and the AFTRA office in Seattle.
